Why is this special? Bloom has an incredible ability take students at any level - from total beginners to grammy winning pros - and draw out the best in the skills they possess at that moment. He doesn't try to cram your head with complex jazz theory, but rather focuses on helping students bust out of those old familiar ruts and elevate their individual musicianship...wherever they are in their own, lifelong musical journey. For those new to jazz, it's not about playing lots of notes - it's about picking the right notes to play. As long as you can play your instrument, this guy will have you sounding like a seasoned pro in no time!
What's the deal? This workshop will include four ensembles of 5-6 people each. We've still got about 6-8 spots left, so I'd love your help in filling up! :) We are looking to assemble both beginner groups and advanced ensembles (for those who already play out regularly). The attached a flyer contains general info but all musicians will meet together for a 1 hr. intro on Friday evening (12/9) then each ensemble will have its own 2 hr. session on Sat and 2 hr. session on Sunday. We'll wrap things up with a casual group showcase performance for friends and family on Sunday evening. Bloom is also available for private lessons for those who are interested but can't make the full workshop.
Why should I do it? I am optimistic that this will be not only an awesome opportunity for each of us to advance our skills individually, but also to bond and grow as a local music community. Most of all, it will be lots of FUN!!
